Illuminating the Work of Big Bend Artists

Reeda Peel

Native Texan, Reeda Peel, is an artist/archeologist whose career spans 28 years of documenting and researching Native American rock art in Texas. Her work has taken her to all areas of Texas where rock art is found. She recently retired from the Center for Big Bend Studies,Sul Ross State University. She continues her research and documentation efforts as an independent contractor and volunteer.

Peel's art is strongly influenced by knowledge gained through the study of archeology. Her illustrations have been included in Stearn's "World Civilizations", Volumes 6 and 7 (college text book), the State of Texas 2016 Texas History book for 8th grade, and Texas Beyond History, a virtual museum sponsored by Texas Archeological Research Laboratory (UT Austin).
