My interests in arts and science are apparent in my formal and informal education. As an x-ray technologist, I worked my way through college, receiving BFA and BA undergraduate degrees and an MFA from the University of Missouri, Columbia. I've studied art in Aix-En-Provence and Saarbrucken, Germany. Back in Missouri, I worked propogating native plants and re-establishing native prairie habitats. I also joined a research group for a summer of mist-netting and spot mapping song birds with the Missouri Ozark Forest Ecosystem Project.
Today, I balance my love nature by studying plants, rocks insects and painting landscapes. Working with pastel, I can backpack to the places I paint. Sometimes I paint on the side of the road; sometimes on top of a mountain. I've had cows eat my granola bars and policemen stop to see if I need help. If a red-tailed hawk flies into my view, he may end up in my picture. My goal is to bring back from my visit as much of the experience as I can on my back, a daunting task considering the incredible natural beauty of west Texas.
